Jan Scholtz / Executive Chairman

Jan Scholz has served on the Board of the Thembalitsha Foundation since 2009 in his role of Legal Advisor and Governance. CEO and

Co-Founder of Global BPO(2003), managing South African offices. Founded Global Secretarial in 2000, initially focusing on Legal Transcription work. UK owned and managed, offering Legal Process Outsourcing solutions to professionals. Dual qualifications in law (South Africa and England), Jan has practiced law for the past 14 years, admitted in South Africa, England and Wales. He worked on class action litigation such as the Lloyd’s v Jaffray piece and other commercial cases in the UK. Jan’s integrity led to the accreditation of Global BPO’s Implementation of Information Security Systems. Global BPO is currently engaging merging markets as the company deepens its international footprint by expanding into Australia.


Frank Christie / Vice Chairman

Frank Christie, the visionary that founded Thembalitsha Foundation in 1997 has actively chaired the organisation on the board and has held the role of Marketing Director. Frank is the owner of Lucidity Consultancy. He is a Husband, father, visionary, coach and champion of the voiceless, widowed and orphaned. 

Frank holds a Master Degree in Business Leadership. 


Monica Folscher / Managing Director

Monica has steered Thembalitsha into calm waters over the past five years, giving strategic guidance and putting systems in place to catch up with the growth of the foundation. She has over 20 years’ experience in NGO management and has academic qualifications in Communications, Political Science, and Journalism, with a Masters Degree in Psychology. Her field of expertise is child sexual abuse, trauma intervention, and training of community volunteers, with extensive experience in community intervention systems, psycho-social support, palliative care and training of post graduate students, she has received awards from Rapport, Business Against Crime and the Rotary Vocational Service Award.


Jan Truter / Secretary

Jan Truter brings his expertise in Labour Relations to assist Thembalitsha Foundation. Director and Founder of Labourwise (Pty) Ltd Somerset West in January 2002; Co-founder & Director Effective Human Solutions (Pty) Ltd in 1998 – Present (18 years); Co-founder Edureach (Pty) Ltd 2006 – Present (10 years); Non-executive Director Thembalitsha Foundation 2010 – Present (6 years); Founding member and Consultant Trulouw cc 1999 – Present (17 years); Legal Advisor and Group Industrial Relations Advisor Gold Fields Ltd. January 1989 – December 1996 (8 years); Attorney Practising Attorney 1985 – 1989 (4 years).


Anthony Geard / Treasurer

Anthony Geard serves as treasurer and financial advisor on the board of the Thembalitsha Foundation. He has also been involved in the expansion of services to Adelaide in the Eastern Cape. He studied at the University of Cape Town, completing a Bachelor of Business Science (Honours) degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting. Anthony subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He is also a CFA charter holder. He has worked at Investec Securities as an investment analyst since 1999 in Johannesburg, London and Cape Town. Anthony now lives in Somerset West with his wife and two children and has been involved with Thembalitsha since 2010.



John Miller / Church Liaison

John studied at Radley College and Sheffield University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science 2:1 Geology degree. Worked as a mining geologist. Graduated from Rhema Bible Training Centre in 1988. In 1997 he was the vice-chair of the church’s National Aids Forum in South Africa. Presently, John is the Senior Pastor of the His People City Bowl Church.


Jaap Pijl / Financial Director

Jaap joined Thembalitsha mid-2019 as Financial Director. He hails from the Netherlands, having moved to South Africa at the turn of the century. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA from the University of Stellenbosch. He started his career as an auditor in 1997 working for what was then Arthur Andersen. After 8 years in this field, he took on financial and commercial positions in the international oil and gas services industry, travelling extensively into Sub-Saharan Africa. Before he ventured on his own as a strategic financial consultant he managed one of South Africa’s premium wine producers for just over 7 years. We have been told that in his spare time he is still involved in the wine industry, but we have yet to see the fruits of his endeavours. Jaap lives in Stellenbosch with his wife and three children.
